If a candidate chooses to study in Canada, they will receive points in three categories: language, education, and work. A Canadian education can provide valuable points for various immigration streams such as Express Entry or the PNP.

Students are also permitted to work up to 20 hours per week while enrolled in their course, which allows them to gain valuable work experience and increase their CRS score.

To study in Canada as an international student, you must first obtain a study permit from the Canadian federal government.

A Canadian study permit is valid for the duration of your study course in Canada plus 90 days.

The additional 90 days are allotted for either making preparations to leave Canada or applying to extend one’s stay in Canada as an international student.

You can study in Canada if you have a study permit. A study permit is not the same as a visa. You cannot enter Canada solely on the basis of a study permit.

If your study permit is approved, you will be issued a Canada visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA) in addition to the study permit.

The Student Direct Stream (SDS) can get you your study permit much faster, with an expedited processing time of 20 calendar days.

You must be a legal resident of one of the following countries to be eligible for Canada’s SDS for study abroad: India, Pakistan, Vietnam, China, Peru, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Morocco, Senegal, Antigua and Barbuda, Columbia, Philippines, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Costa Rica.
